Values

Values

"Woman condemned to death for adultery in Saudi Arabia. Human rights groups try to stop the execution."

"That's outrageous!"

"You can say that again! Who do these groups think they are to impose their values on another culture?"

"It's sickeningly imperialistic."

  1. As always you nail duality of the matter. Just because we think parts of our culture has become more civilised is no reason to try to impose that part on another culture. The strip says it all. Well done and keep up the good work!

  2. I don't get it. I haven't seen anyone claiming that we should sit back and allow executions for adultery abroad. What is this meant to be satirising?

  3. It's satirising, in my view — please note that I'm not the author — the position of those who think that the values of a particular culture are always and in any case worthy of protection. They claim that institutions that are hundred-years-old or immemorial are, just because of this, good in some way. Of course, this is a stupidity: a bad idea doesn't become good as time goes by.
